Protein powders are an essential ingredient in many bodybuilder’s toolkits. They help build lean muscle, are convenient meals-on-the-go, and even have great therapeutic value in preventing muscle wasting and helping regulate metabolism. The Organic, Non-GMO, Vegan-friendly plant-based protein powders by IdealRaw offer all this support and more.
Protein powders come in many different flavors, mixtures, and qualities. They are among the most popular types of supplements on the market and protein supplements accounts for more than 10 billion dollars in worldwide sales each year (R). That’s a LOT. IdealRaw’s lineup of organic protein powders offers buyers a clean, plant-based option in a time where most other companies are focused only on flavor. Don’t believe us, take a walk into a GNC or Vitamin Shoppe and try to find something organic. Those products are there, but make up only a fraction of market options.
IdealRaw offers several different flavors of organic protein powders including chocolate, vanilla, peanut butter, and banana almond. We had a chance to try the IdealRaw Vanilla Organic Plant-based Protein Powder ourselves, and this review will focus on that product. This product is USDA-Certified Organic, Vegan-friendly, dairy-free, soy-free, and non-GMO. The only thing we’d haggle over is the “natural flavoring” added but, comparatively speaking, IdealRaw’s Vanilla Protein Powder is about as clean and natural as one will find! Below, you’ll find a list of some of the ingredients we found particularly exciting!
Organic Coconut Protein
Coconut is renowned for its many benefits to human health including antibacterial, antifungal, antiviral, antiparasitic, and especially antioxidant properties (R). Many of these concerns aren’t likely relevant to those qualifying their next plant-based protein powder but antioxidant power should be on any weight-lifters’ radar. Helping to support and lower inflammation post-workout is a quality that this protein powder certain boasts.
Organic Pea Protein
Pea protein is underrated as a protein powder ingredient. Double-blind studies have proven it as capable (slightly more capable actually) as whey protein in increasing muscle mass (R). The biggest difference between the two is the avoidance of animal by-products. IdealRaw’s inclusion of Pea protein here is an excellent way to help provide a fuller overall amino-acid profile while still staying vegan-friendly.
Organic Pumpkin Protein
Pumpkin seeds have a rich amino acid profile with particularly noteworthy levels of L-Arginine (R). L-Arginine is often used by weight-lifters and athletes as a way to boost serum Nitrous Oxide (NO) levels to improve endurance. Pumpkin seeds have also demonstrated the ability to help lower cholesterol levels (not attributed to their Arginine content) which, in this case, is just an added bonus! Pumpkin seed protein: helping build bigger muscles and keeping you healthier!
Organic Vanilla Sugar
The consideration for flavor is a very real concern when it comes to protein powders. Overall, the IdealRaw protein has found an incredible balance of being sweet enough to tolerate on its own if necessary, but not so much to necessitate a lot of sugary ingredients. The use of Organic Vanilla sugar rather than some nasty dextrose or overly-commercialized sugar was a great choice. Alongside the organic stevia, this protein powder was sweet enough to drink without extra ingredients—but not too sweet. You’ll still know you’ve got a plant-based protein powder in your mixer.
Beets: Increased levels of antioxidative compounds including reduced Glutathione and Catalase (R).
Cranberry: Contains a rich profile of phenols and related antioxidant compounds with known abilities to help reduce systemic inflammation (among many other benefits) (R).
Pomegranate: Pomegranate is another superfood that contains many powerful antiradical compounds useful in helping optimize aerobic processes.
Wheat Grass: Another powerful antioxidant superfood known to boost levels of glutathione and superoxide dismutase (SOD) (R)
Brocolli Powder: Everyone knows broccoli is good for them, but not everyone knows that the sulforaphane content can help significantly improve skeletal muscle growth (R).
We’ve reviewed many different types of protein powders ranging from hemp and pea to whey and rice. Whey protein has been long-held as the defacto protein powder of choice for bodybuilders around the world. As a single-ingredient product, it has a fuller profile of amino acids than any other single-ingredient products. Plant-based blends such as the IdealRaw protein powders offer the same complete amino acid profile with the added benefit of trace minerals and vitamins not found in whey. This protein powder is on our list of best protein powders as best protein shake and would have been the best Vegan protein powder if we’d expanded into that category (maybe in the future!) Overall, this product is well-formulated to provide support for the growth of new muscle as well as strong anti-inflammatory support to help minimize tissue damage from intense workouts.
